Il saggio esamina i casi di separazione e annullamento di matrimonio esaminati dal tribunale della S. Romana Rota nel secolo XVII. In alcune pubblicazioni, sono state presentate singole vicende e le sentenze emesse in tali occasioni. Il contributo invece offre un quadro organico della questioni, esaminando la giurisdizione del tribunale, la procedura, le cause - italiane e internazionali - esaminate, sulla scorta della documentazione archivistica della Rota stessa piuttosto che sulla decisionistica edita.
